“This striking side portrait portrays an almost icon-like woman with an intense green eye drawing the viewer into a quiet but emotional depth.
The title “A Mother, A Daughter, A Wife, A Sister” suggests a universal representation of womanhood emphasising the shared roles and identities carried by women across generations. It is both symbolic and very sensitive.”
Frank McFadden (born 1972) is a Scottish contemporary artist whose work has become recognised across galleries in the UK and internationally. Originally trained as a sign-writer and graphic designer, McFadden’s artistic path took a transformative turn through his long-standing creative relationship with fellow Glaswegian painter Peter Howson. Howson has been instrumental in McFadden’s artistic development, and the two artists share a studio and continue to exhibit together in Glasgow, Edinburgh and abroad.
McFadden’s work regularly appears in leading galleries and contemporary Scottish art auctions, and he has been featured in exhibitions including A Playlist for Fionnbarr at the Maclaurin Art Gallery.
His artistic output is marked by expressive figuration and a distinctive voice that reflects a personal journey shaped by life experience and rediscovery through art. McFadden’s paintings have attracted attention in the auction market, with works offered internationally and a recorded auction high in recent years.
McFadden’s art continues to evolve and resonate with collectors interested in strong contemporary Scottish voices working today.
