“This cheeky and fun piece really caught my eye because it has that bold Pop Art feel straight away. The comic-book style and strong colours clearly tip their hat to Roy Lichtenstein, which is where the title Roy II seems to come from.

Philippe Grimaud takes that familiar Pop Art look and has a bit of fun with it, creating a scene that feels like a moment from a graphic novel or film. It’s playful, eye-catching and full of character.

For me it’s simply a great piece of modern Pop-style art that brings a bit of energy and colour into a room.”

Philippe Grimaud (born 1958) is a French artist and graphic designer who lives and works in Nantes, France. After studying art, he worked for many years as a graphic designer and art director in advertising agencies in the Paris region before returning to a more personal artistic practice.

Grimaud’s work draws heavily on the visual culture of the 1960s and 1970s, particularly Pop Art, American comics, cinema and advertising imagery. His compositions often combine stylised figures, bold graphic colour and narrative elements that reference popular culture.

Much of his work has been produced as limited-edition screenprints and graphic works, frequently featuring characters or themes drawn from popular culture and comic imagery. These works circulate widely through galleries and the secondary art market.

Grimaud’s prints have appeared regularly in auction records and gallery sales across Europe, with subjects including figures from cinema, comic culture and popular iconography.
