“This is another painting by Joe Hendry exploring the theme of the kilted Scottish figure. The man is shown from behind, hands clasped behind his back, standing quite calmly on the canvas.

What I like about this one is its simplicity. There’s nothing complicated about it — just a figure, a kilt, and a quiet bit of attitude. Hendry manages to make something very Scottish feel fresh and contemporary at the same time.”

Robert Edmanson-Harrison is a contemporary artist associated with the Isle of Man. Published profiles describe him as working across painting, sculpture, photography and design, and connect him with Artwork of Mann, through which his work and other artists’ work have been marketed. His online artist biographies also state that he originally worked in a more detailed style before changing direction around 1990 toward a looser approach influenced by Monet, Gauguin and Van Gogh.
